No cocktail umbrellas here; these pre-mixed tipples are straight out of the top drawer.

When it comes to quality cocktails, there’s no holding back for the team at The Inside Guide. So, when we got invited to the launch of Bottld, the latest offering from The House of Machines (THoM), we had to draw sticks to see who would attend. I got lucky…

In line with the global trend of doing things the old-fashioned way, Bottld is an original range of expertly distilled, blended and infused cocktails and spirits. Master mixologist Marshall (real name: Siavash Behaein, aka the head barman at THoM) explains the concept: “Bottld is unique in a lot of ways. Not only are the cocktails delicious, they’re easy to mix and make, and every single drink tastes the same. From the customer’s point of view, it’s also a big time-saver – you won’t have to wait hours for your Old Fashioned to be mixed, as it’s all pre-done.”

There are eight cocktails and nine blended spirits in the Bottld range, so you’re bound to find something that appeals. THoM’s signature Old Fashioned (made with a perfectly formed slow-diluting ice cube) is legendary; the creamy Army/Navy (apple-, almond- and vanilla-infused gin is, as Marshall puts it, “refreshingly good in summer”, but it was the T&T, Marshall’s contemporary spin on a classic G&T, that sealed the deal. It’s made with THoM’s House Gin infused with lemongrass and green tea, served over ice with a splash of tonic.

The Cabronita blends Tequila Reposado with cardamom, sugar and lime, and is unexpectedly infused with corn nachos. For real! And the Negroni – gin, campari and sweet vermouth – is so delicious, it will transport you to a cobbled Roman piazza.

Design-savvy drinkers, don’t miss Bottld’s beautifully designed spirit labels, both quirky and classic, created by some of Cape Town’s leading designers and illustrators. Just another detail that sets Bottld apart…

From now until the end of March 2016, THoM is featuring two cocktails a week as part of Bottld’s #BlessedWednesdays. See you there. Hip hip, chin chin!
