Change Coffee Day

Change Coffee Day

Have your cup of joe – and donate the cost of another one for a worthy cause.

Back in 2010 Eniwe Children’s Fund was founded, and in just six years it has managed to raise a whopping R3 million for community projects in Empangeni (Kwazulu-Natal), Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Vrygrond and Grabouw.

Wanting to do more, raise more and be more, the nonprofit organisation realised that many people don’t bat an eyelid when handing over R20 or so for a cup of coffee every day – an amount that could be used to help improve the life of an abandoned or underprivileged child.

So they launched Change Coffee – a one-day event taking place at various coffee shops in the Mother City (find the closest one to you using this nifty store locator). Buy your cup of caffeine, and then donate the cost of another one (or more) into the Change Coffee Collection cup at the counter. It’s as simple as that.

Be part of a global movement

Change Coffee is not just happening in Cape Town on 2 December; cafés and coffee shops around the world will be taking part in this charitable initiative that happens on the first Friday of December each year. Funds raised go to on-the-ground programmes that help provide food, water, basic hygiene, education and shelter to underprivileged and abandoned children.

Some participating coffees shops in the Mother City include:

  • The Haas Collection
  • House of H
  • Truth Coffee
  • Knead Bakery & Coffee Shop
  • House of Machines
  • Bootlegger Coffee Company

Espresso in numbers

  • A single R20 cup of coffee can feed 10 children for a day
  • A single R20 cup of coffee can feed 1 child for 10 days
  • 25 cups of coffee can feed one child for a whole year
  • 500 cups of coffee can build a new home for a child-headed household

So, grab your cuppa, and donate another.
