For one weekend each year, the picturesque winelands town of Franschhoek is alive with local and out-of-town bookworms. With literary discussions, book launches, writing workshops, classical music concerts, dinners and loads of books, it promises to be, as always, a truly enriching experience.
The world-renowned festival has two aims: to bring together local and international literary gurus and authors for informal discussions, and also to promote and encourage reading among the Western Cape population (and South Africa as a whole).
Some 90 events will be happening during the festival, including thought-provoking discussions between writers on politics, history, science, writing as a profession, and even social media! Details are available on the official FLF programme.
And in the evenings, enjoy dinner and a poetry or classical-music recital, and maybe even get an opportunity to chat to your favourite authors.
Please note: punctuality is essential – once an event has begun, you will be denied entry, even if you have tickets. So make sure you arrive on time.
- Other accommodation options include: Babylonstoren, which is the last word in luxury, while Angala Boutique Hotel is a haven of tranquility that’ll leave you refreshed and restored.
- Also, coinciding with this literary fest, is the Autumn Weekend of Music in Franschhoek, which will provide some classical music to delight your ears.
