Escape the city’s biting cold and head over to Gordon’s Bay. Sheltered from the chilly winds by the Hottentots Holland mountain range, this quaint seaside town erupts into a winter wonderland of twinkly lights and festive cheer from 30 June to 9 July 2017, when local merchants dress their shop windows and restaurants in fairy lights to create a wonderfully whimsical atmosphere.
The Carnival Weekends – from 30 June to 2 July and 7 to 9 July – are the festival highlights, with parades, food and craft markets, gigantic amusement park and live music happening in Hendon Park. A beer tent, tea garden and pop-up restaurants are just some of the attractions for adults, while the young ones will be kept entertained at the amusement park.
Last year, over 25 000 people got to experience the fun, so if you’re thinking of spending a night or three in Gordon’s Bay, it’s worth booking your accommodation soon.
