Voted one of South Africa’s top 10 wine events, the Hermanus Wine & Food Festival is back this year for a weekend of gourmet food, superb wine, and fabulous entertainment. Taking place in the Hemel en Aarde Village in the heart of the Hermanus Wine Route, the venue is a suitably relaxed, airy and informal setting, perfect for or the whole family.
Head to the Wine Tasting Hall, where you’ll be encouraged to sip, swirl and swallow to your heart’s content. On show will be a selection of reds, whites and bubblies from internationally famous local wineries such as Hamilton Russell, The Giant Periwinkle, Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Creation Wines, Spookfontein Wines, La Vierge, to name a few. Wines on show will be available for purchase at cellar-door prices, while local restaurants and delis will have delicious food available for purchase.
Fancy something other than wine? The Festival Lounge will house eight brew masters, with over 30 craft beers and ciders on offer, as well as several micro-distilleries showcasing their innovative and oh-so-tasty gins.
And, the best part is that there’ll be a dedicated children’s play area where the little ones will be kept safe and entertained with activities such as face painting, jumping castles, and more – leaving the grown-ups to enjoy the live music and, of course, partake in the serious business of wine tasting.
August is the official start of whale season in Hermanus (even though a few gentle giants have been spotted in our oceans already). So while you’re there, take the opportunity to go whale-spotting. And don’t forget to book for the Hermanus Whale Festival happening in mid-October.
