Read all about it: Open Book Festival 2017

Open Book Festival, Retha Ferguson

A literary celebration of books, stories, ideas and authors.

Once again, the Open Book Festival – now in its seventh year – brings bookworms, aspiring writers, comicbook fans and authors together for a five-day fest of talks, dinners and more. The extensive programme is already shaping up to be a rather enticing one.

Talented local and international guests

With over 100 well-known authors participating – including Deon Meyer, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, Bongani Kona, Jay Naidoo, Lauren Beukes, Yewande Omotoso, and many more, fans, fellow writers and poets can expect to be captivated by some insightful poetry, lively discussions and, of course, wonderful literary works.

Ready, set, read!

We recommend catching up on your reading before encountering your favourite authors, poets and cartoonists at the festival in September, as they will be revealing personal thoughts and hidden facts about their works. Live demonstrations and recitals will allow you to engage with these literary greats in a fun and relaxing setting.

Last year, the festival attracted almost 10 000 visitors to its 125 events, and featured over 251 participants.

This year, international creatives, such as Alex Wheatle, Nathan Hill, Scaachi Koul and Carl Frode Tiller, are sure to make the festival even more exciting, while the return of festival favourites such as WriterSports, Open Book Poetry Slam and Talking Turkey will ensure there’s something for everyone!
