If, like us, you can’t resist a (fatty) piece of (wet) biltong, get to L’Avenir Wine Estate just outside Stellenbosch for the third annual Pinotage & Biltong Festival. A range of spiced biltong products will be paired with some of the country’s best pinotages – all of which will be available for tasting and buying. We are thrilled that The Werf Butchery at Boschendal is bringing its biltong and droëwors to the event, with some cool new flavours on offer – Rooibos and Honey biltong; Lemon Pepper and Herb biltong; and Smoked Paprika droëwors. Dad’s Choice Biltong and Braai will also be there, with its signature yellow-fat beef biltong, as well as some new flavours, such as Chutney Bacon, Chilli Chicken and Kudu.
The 20 participating wineries include L’Avenir Wine Estate (naturally), Altydgedacht Estate, Anura Vineyards, Badsberg Wine Cellar, Beyerskloof, Doolhof Wine Estate, Flagstone Winery, Kaapzicht Wine Estate, Knorhoek Wines, Lanzerac Wine Estate, Leipzig Wines, Mellasat Vineyards, Namaqua Wines, Overhex Wines International, Perdeberg Wines, Simonsvlei, Stellenbosch Vineyards, Vriesenhof Vineyards, Wellington Wines and Windmeul Kelder. And, If you are not a red wine fan, the Pinotage selection includes rosés, bubblies, blends and even a white pinotage.
For those looking for more than just a snack, you won’t go hungry! Food trucks and stalls will be on site selling a variety of tasty treats including pizza, boerewors rolls, ice cream, and more. Grab a seat under the trees by the dam, or on the lawns outside the cellar, and enjoy a glass of the good stuff while listening to live music by Guy Feldman and his band.
The R200 admission ticket gets you a branded crystal wine glass and a pairing card for the pinotage-and-biltong tastings. So round up your crew, and get ready for a relaxed day out.
