Situated on the scenic Route 62, and cupped between the Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges with the Breede River running through it, the Robertson Wine Valley is a picture-perfect setting for this fun-filled addition to the Cape Town festival scene.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
You’ll need to buy your ticket from Webtickets (R180), which includes a complimentary wine glass, bottle of mineral water, a Wacky Wine Weekend Programme and 6 wine tasting coupons per winery.
FOR THE LOVE OF WINE
The Robertson winemakers have thrown open their barn doors, inviting visitors to come and taste the valley lifestyle and hear the stories behind the bottles. Wander between estates, sampling sublime vintages and taking part in tutored tastings, or sit back and enjoy the live entertainment. More of a romantic than a activity junkie? Then book a candlelit wine tasting, seal your love at the love-lock wall, dance the night away or enjoy a bottle of red in front of a fireplace.
DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE
Don’t stress about driving; take a pre-booked shuttle. The Wacky Fun Bus departs from the Waterfront at 8am on Saturday, 3 June, stopping at Tyger Valley, Stellenbosch and Paarl before driving to Robertson. It returns at 6pm the same day. This service includes shuttling between wineries, and costs R650.
There’s also the option of renting a Buddy Bus Shuttle (also called the Day-in-and-out Trips) for the day (for a minimum of 7 people), which is available to pick up visitors at their accommodation from 8am onwards, and return them by 7pm. The service must be booked in advance and paid for in full by 29 May 2016. It is possible to have a shuttle available after 7pm, but it will cost extra and you will need to let the driver know beforehand. The price of a Buddy Bus differs according to the area you want to be picked up from and dropped off at. It starts at R3 200 for seven people in the Robertson and Bonnievale area. Call 083 258 4769 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book a ride.
