With arguably the best views at the V&A Waterfront, this cool Barcelona-esque tapas spot does delicious small plates to share. We love that, once inside, you feel like you’ve been transported out of a shopping mall, thanks to the chic decor, perfect lighting, cool beats and spacious interior. What’s rather special about the menu is that each food item can be paired with your choice of craft beer, bubbly or wine. Because it’s dry January, we declined the tipples, much to the dismay of super-efficient manager Malcolm Johani, who said he’d throw in a bottle of Dom Perignon just to lure us off the wagon!
Off the seafood menu, we enjoyed the dukka-spiced tuna and the garlic prawns with chilli, olive oil and herbs. The beef sliders with pickles and frizzled onion hit the spot, as did the grilled-to-perfection fillet with béarnaise and skinny fries. Every item in the Dalliance Summer Salad – greens, nuts, avo and apple – was fresh and well dressed, but it was the dinky chocolate fondant off the specials menu that stole our hearts. It’s the perfect place to take a break from shopping, while taking in the sea views and letting the chilled beats in the background wash over you. Be warned: if you’re looking for a belly-warming dinner, you’ve come to the wrong place. These are small plates with a capital S.
