Ginja Restaurant

Views that can't be beat.

Offering a civilised reprieve from the tourist-trodden shopping mall, this chic new eatery on the Waterfront Pierhead boasts magical views of the harbour basin and Table Mountain (especially at night when the city lights are aflutter). That’s not to say you won’t find out-of-towners here; its waterside setting has made it somewhat of a honeypot for visiting bees. Its concise all-day menu includes prawn risotto, an Asian-style pork wrap, a slow-roasted pulled-duck pasta, battered hake, smoothies and raw juices, and a value-for-money crayfish special.

The Grilled Halloumi salad with grilled artichokes, charred sweetcorn, heirloom tomatoes and avocado is knockout, and could’ve served as a main, but I’d already ordered the seared yellowfin tuna steak for my entrée…  Topped with a tasty onion-and-tomato relish and accompanied by deep-fried cauliflower, it is superb (and reasonably priced, I thought, at R150). Don’t leave without ordering the Chocolate Dessert (layers of chocolate cream, pistachio ice cream and chocolate brownie, served in a glass mug, with a honey wafer).
