If you drive along Constantia Main Road where the old oak trees flank the avenue, you’ll come across Chardonnay Deli. Housed in a renovated historic building, the dark walls, reclaimed wooden counters and straw-plaited baskets filled with fresh produce set the rustic farm stall scene.
Owner Charmaine Lilje opened this organic deli in Constantia in December 2014 as a headquarters for her private-catering service, Chardonnay Chefs. Feathers in Charmaine’s cap include apprenticeships under the likes of Olympia Café’s Kenneth McClarty and award-winning chefs Franck Dangereux and Luke Dale-Roberts.
On prominent display you’ll find a selection of artisanal loaves, churned out by Chardonnay Deli’s excellent bakers, who have a knack for mixing flours and grains to create utterly moreish loaves. You must try their signature ciabattas!
Breakfast and lunch dishes of the day are written on a chalkboard, and include granola, croissants, pies, quiches, charcuterie boards and pork belly to whet your appetite. The deli section offers a wonderful array of award-winning local cheeses, jams, gluten-free treats to take home, fruit and vegetables, homemade ice cream, free-range chickens, moreish homemade cakes and pastries. And there is also a wide range of unique gifting items to choose from.
