Fellow Capetonians, how lucky are we to have access to beautiful farms in and around our city where we can go strawberry-picking to our heart’s content? There’s nothing quite like strolling through rows and rows of fruit beds with a bunch of friends (or family), while you fill up your baskets with fresh and delicious produce.
Strawberry-picking season happens every year between October and December at several farms in and around Cape Town. Stellenbosch, in particular, is home to a number of strawberry farms that, as well as sending fresh produce to the tables of the region’s finest restaurants, allow guests to scurry around their fields and pick as many strawbs as they like. Here’s where we love to do some strawberry picking in Stellenbosch:
Polkadraai Strawberry Farm
This family-friendly farm offers the perfect day out for the little ones. Grab a basket and roam around the fields picking (and eating) delicious strawberries. Afterwards, the kids can enjoy face-painting, tractor and pony rides, and other entertainment.

Mooiberge Strawberry Farm
This farm, dating back to the 1900s, has a rich history of producing one of the best strawberry harvests in the country year after year. Also available is a range of dried fruits and nuts.
Time 9.30am – 4.30pm (weekends, public holidays and daily during December school holidays)

Another Stellenbosch gem, this farm uses biological pest control and mainly organic fertiliser, which contribute to beautiful-tasting strawberries.
