I am ancient [in response to being asked his age].
I was born and raised in the shadow of the Amatola Mountains in the Eastern Cape.
What I love most about living in Cape Town is the combination of natural beauty and urban edge.
The best restaurant meal I’ve eaten recently was sashimi with freshly grated wasabi root and 30-year-old single malt Japanese whiskey at Kyoto Garden Sushi.
My (other) favourite restaurants include Chefs Warehouse, Ash, The Shortmarket Club and Punjab Express. I very seldom order the same thing twice in a row. I’m always on the lookout for a new flavour.
I very seldom go away for the weekend. Everything I want and like is on my doorstep. Sea, mountain, restaurants, theatres, my wine cellar, my bookshelves. When I travel, I travel far and long.
I don’t have a bucket list; I’m lucky enough to have done pretty much everything I want to do.
The best coffee spot in my area is Organic Zone in Lakeside.
The best walks in my area are the sea walk between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay, and the walk to Elephant’s Eye from Silvermine.
The Banting diet makes a great deal of sense for people who are carb-intolerant to drastically reduce the amount of carbohydrates they consume.
My tipple of choice is white wine.
I’m currently reading Andrew Brown’s superb journal of being a police reservist, Good Cop, Bad Cop.
On Sundays I do as little as possible, and hope that my sporting teams win.
Money is a means to an end.
Straight after this, I’m trying to understand the future of coalition governments in Gauteng metros.
When I wake up in the middle of the night I pad to the bathroom and then go back to sleep.
One day I’ll make a determined effort to understand the theory of general relativity.
