What? That kinda money spent for new years eve. It’s a rip off and pathetic. Yes we not forced to go but com on. Are we going to have gold FOOD? It’s the same food so why all of a Sudden that expensive. And in winter specials as thy need local people to support their business.

so agree with you there, its only for the rich and the normal working class can go sit with a picnic basket on lionshead or table mountain or get squashed in the waterfront.
      prices are outrageous.

It’s profiteering plain and simple. Even tourists (like me) find the prices rediculous. Especially when we know what a rip off some of these pretentious places are usually (Balthazar for example)

  11. Tracey

How about options for “normal” people!?

These prices are beyond ridiculous! Menus at these prices, while I’m sure will be “nice”, are completely uninspired!

It is crystal clear that Cape Town establishments are truly taking the p…! Disgusting! When the foreigners leave and the season is over, they forget who is going to be filling their tables. It’s also shocking that most of these prices far exceed prices in big USA and EU cities.

  15. Paul

Waterfront venues clearly colluding with their exorbitant pricing for pitiful platters

    Reply
  16. Yoni

These are all BEYOND ridiculously overpriced! Anything that is fun and yum and affordable happening in the cape?

    Reply
  17. Keith

Its called the band wagon, any special date, occasion or occurrence and everybody jumps on it with the sound ka-ching ringing loudly in their ears. Sadly you get nothing for nothing, especially here in SA. One year someone somewhere will host a lekker, fun New Years jol and charge a nominal fee to cover expenses…but don’t hold your breath!

    Reply
  18. marie

So pleased there are others that find this so overpriced and quite ‘out of this world’ Cape Town needs to take stock of what it has …… loyal locals who have always been true to the places around them – and suddenly – we are now cast outs. Does this concern anyone taking everyone for a ride …… Think not!!!

  19. Lynn

Have the people of Cape Town all of sudden become extremely rich? Any ideas for the normal working class people of Cape Town to do on New Years Eve?
