Completely overhauled by joint owners Matt and Phil, and two assisting painters, this is a welcome addition to the busy corner in Mowbray opposite the Fat Cactus. The awesome assortment of decor items (some of which have been donated by diners), greenery and reclaimed wooden-pallet walls and tables give the place a refreshingly rustic feel. The menu (with items such as Pay Back the Mango) offers breakfast (available until 12pm), sandwiches, starters, pizza, seafood, landfood (meat dishes), cocktails, craft, local and draught beers, hot and cold beverages and sweet stuff too. Portions, neatly presented on recycled wooden boards, are suitably large and very tasty. There are also a few vegetarian dishes and, for an extra R10, gluten-free pizza bases. Owners and staff are very efficient and welcoming.
We recommend the Norwegian sandwich (R99.95): smoked salmon, loads of chunky cottage cheese, avocado and chives on a ciabatta panini with curly fries and the popular Candyfloss Martini (R49.95).
Please note There are a smoking and non-smoking sections, a bar area – and they’re looking to create outdoor seating and a kids’ play area too.
