Situated St Pieter’s Roche, a working farm along Paarl’s Main Road, Tea Under The Trees is an exciting concept that sees a beautiful garden turned into the ideal venue for a lovely cup of tea.
Frequently used as a venue for weddings and other functions, it has become a favourite among those looking to enjoy impeccably made pastries in an authentic tea garden.
As you drive in, past old, overhanging oak trees, it feels as if you are stepping into wonderland. With its perfectly manicured lawns, surrounded by brightly flowered shrubs, it is the perfect setting for a fun afternoon of lovely food and drink.
The menu comprises of light meals, made from fresh and organic produce, mainly sourced from the farm. (There’s also a children’s menu available.) Some of the meals you can expect include fresh fruit salad (with a lemongrass dressing), quiche of the day, as well as a tasty blue cheese-and-onion marmalade sandwiches, and roasted vegetable wraps. (For an extra R10, you can substitute gluten-free bread as desired.)
Tempting sweet treats
A trip to Tea Under The Trees would be not be complete without sampling at least one item on the decadent dessert menu, which features South African favourites, such as koeksisters, milk tart and their famous carrot cake. There are also gluten-free brownies for those with food intolerances.
Tea Under The Trees is more than just a tea experience; there’s a bric-à-brac shop, selling mostly vintage teacups, teapots, coffee sets, cutlery and the like. New stock arrives weekly, so there is always something different to peruse if you are a regular visitor.
Please note Tea Under the Trees closed on 22 April for their annual winter break and officially re-opens on 1 October 2016. (Please note: they sometimes open earlier depending on the weather.)
