Black Eagle Lodges: A Farm Getaway (with Hot Tubs) near Cape Town
An Overberg oasis.
By Inside Guide • 02 September 2021
On a privately owned farm just outside the historic town of Caledon, Black Eagle Lodges is home to three country cottages that offer nature-loving travellers an immersive stay surrounded by mountains, a fynbos-dotted valley and abundant birdlife.

Generously spaced a kilometre apart for a heightened sense of peace and privacy, and each boasting their own wood-fired hot tub, the three self-catering units are luxuriously rustic and utterly comfortable, providing exactly what you need for a rejuvenating stay with family and friends.
The views from the hot tub (and the living area and patio) are some of the most spectacular around: a lush-green valley of rolling green hills as far as the eye can see, with your own private dam a stone’s throw from the hot tub.
About the farm

Run by the passionate Delport family for seven generations, Kempsrivier Farm is an established and fully operational sheep, cattle, fruit and wheat farm. While staying at this private paradise, guests are guaranteed a peek at the magnificent birdlife, which includes blue cranes, black eagles (hence the name) and Cape sunbirds. And, if you’re super-lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the highly elusive Cape leopard.
The lodgings

There are three different units to choose from: a villa and private lodge that each sleep six, and a cottage that sleeps four. All the accommodation is completely off-grid, and each is equipped with private KolKol hot tubs, boasting magnificent countryside views.
- 3-bedroom villa
- 3-bedroom private lodge
- 2-bedroom cottage
- private hot tubs in each unit
- indoor fireplaces
- shaded patio with outdoor seating
- spacious living rooms
- indoor and outdoor dining areas
- braai facilities

While you’re there

Across the lawn is a jetty overhanging your own private dam, perfect for Wim Hoffing before heating up with a relaxing soak in your private hot tub. Those looking to stretch their legs can do so on a scenic walk through the pear and apple orchards or a hike or ride on one of the many trails. Or, simply pull up a chaise longue and spend the afternoon reading or birdwatching.

There is a surfeit of wine farms in Botriver and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, and the Hermanus town centre (only a 30 minute drive away) is, of course, brimming with shops, beaches, art galleries and restaurants. Not that you’re going to want to leave the farm…

Hi, was hoping to book the Villa, but it seems from the Inside Guide link that there is only availability for the Cottage on upcoming weekends this year? Do you have any dates available this year with weekend availability?
Secondly, would it be ok to bring our well behaved dog with us, for a stay at any of the accommodations?
The Inside Guide •
Hi Hedley,
The Villa’s first weekend availability is Saturday 13 November 2021.
Unfortunately the property is not pet friendly, as it is a working farm and there are roaming farm animals.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
