A Gansbaai Holiday Villa in a Private Beach Estate
Life on the wild side in a fynbos and beach sanctuary.
By Inside Guide • 18 December 2024
This coastal villa near Gansbaai offers more than sea, sand and sunshine. That pristine swathe of white sand is on a private estate, with just a few houses dotted amid the aromatic fynbos. The 220-hectare landscape is also home to free-roaming wildlife (bontebok, eland, springbok, caracal), giving this getaway a safari sensibility too – the resident zebras are known to “pop in” for a visit at the villa.
Designer living

The modern villa has something of a barn-like feel, with its black-metal-clad exterior and ceiling rafters in the spacious interior. Furnished with luxury items and quality appliances (especially in the gourmet kitchen), it’s a wonderful, opulent space in which to relax. Huge windows provide a backdrop of constantly changing scenery and light.

The colour scheme of the villa gently mirrors the landscape – from the beachy, natural hues in the bedrooms (whites, creams, blues, greens and gold) to the black and browns of the living area and the slick black-and-white bathrooms and kitchen. You’ll find plenty of decor detail to love here: the gold-cushioned window seat in a sunny nook; the driftwood coffee table for board games; the cast-iron fireplace in the lounge; the green telephone-box wardrobes in one bedroom…
At leisure

Designed for maximum vacation enjoyment, the living area opens out into a sheltered courtyard – where a built-in braai and dining table, boma seating around a firepit, and a wood-fired hot tub await. The beach is a short walk away, for sunrise swims or sundowner picnics.

The estate, on the Danger Point Peninsula, is central for plenty of activities in the area. Kleinbaai harbour and the Birkenhead lighthouse are close by, Stanford and Hermanus are half an hour’s drive away, and there are a number of private nature/fynbos reserves inland.
