The thatch-roof house, with its stone and timber detailing and beamed ceilings, has a rustic-luxe and authentic family feel – filled with interesting artworks, ornaments and personal treasures. Stairs lead you up and down into different spaces.
The kitchen is kitted out in top-end Miele appliances, including a built-in cappuccino maker. Lining one wall of the dining area is a wine collection behind glass doors, from which guests are welcome to purchase their picks.
Family playground
Outside, the verandah deck is furnished with a plush sofa, wicker chairs and an alfresco dining table, alongside a braai area and a stone-walled pool. Out in the garden, under big old trees, is yet another lounge (with striking purple-upholstered furnishings) – as pretty a place as any for afternoon tea.
Suite life
The five bedrooms are divided between the main house (upstairs – with mountain views) and the garden cottage – providing the perfect den for teenagers or a private escape for the grandparents. Bedrooms are like hotel suites, with sofas or armchairs and a desk; the master bedroom has a four-poster bed and a spacious ensuite with a slipper bath and walk-in shower.
