Maison Cabrière: Stylish Suites in Franschhoek
Contemporary style in the Cape Winelands.
By The Inside Guide • 29 October 2021
When Dutch owners Eveline and Alexander de Vries-Spruijt decided to escape their fast-paced life in Amsterdam, they figured Franschhoek would be the perfect place to wind down. So, they created Maison Cabrière, a beautiful property that they renovated into an intimate boutique hotel with six stylish suites.

The couple wanted to create a space that “combined the best elements of a hotel stay and an Airbnb rental”. In other words, a place that’s utterly comfortable and considered, and also offers all you need to make it your own while you’re there.

Stylish decor aside, the property has loads going for it, not least its central location just a three-minute walk from Franschhoek’s main drag, and its tranquil gardenside setting ensuring privacy and discretion.
The lodgings

A small wooden gate from the private parking opens onto a charming pathway lined with lavender and rosemary bushes that, in turn, leads into a beautifully manicured garden with suites overlooking it.
Of the six boutique suites, three are located in the main house, and three are in an adjacent building. Some have a private terrace overlooking the garden, while others have their own capacious balconies offering views of the mountain. All are imbued with an unmistakable modern-Scandi aesthetic, featuring blonde-wood finishes, unique handmade furniture and tasteful pops of colour.

While you’re there

The spacious outdoor area boasts a wooden deck, with a sizable pool and an array of sun loungers and towels that beckon on sunny afternoons. Should you tire of relaxing, a fleet of vintage-style bikes is available for exploring the area. Else, just continue languishing on one of the couches in the lounge, with a pile of magazines and a snack.
