A Heavenly Beach House in Scarborough

Scarborough Beach Villa

Peaceful perfection at the southern tip of Cape Town.

When a home is designed by its owners based on their connection to the setting, you know you can expect something beautiful. When those owners are two of southern Africa’s most talented interior designers, who single-handedly created “safari chic”, you know you’re in for something special.

Built as a family retreat by the team from Cecile & Boyd, this Scarborough villa is a wonderfully realised property – zoned and curated into different spaces to answer the needs of everyone who is a guest. And though it’s no longer in the family, their brilliant footprint remains.

The natural way

Scarborough Beach Villa Living Space

Set between fynbos-covered mountain and never-ending sea, neighbouring a private nature reserve (you’ll spot antelope and ostriches), it has a wonderful sense of space. It feels almost rural, but the creative hamlet of Scarborough is on the doorstep and the pristine beach a five-minute walk away through the wetlands.

Designed delight

Scarborough Beach Villa Dining Room

Built over three levels, but blending into the rugged surroundings (thanks to its stone walls), there are areas for sleeping, eating and entertainment. You get privacy, should you want it, or community in gorgeous, comfortable spaces.

From the “snug” area around the fireplace and various dining areas to the expansive garden and pool area, plus verandahs that are “rooms” in their own right, it is the ideal spot for group gatherings. There are five bedrooms, including ones that open onto the garden and a loft suite that’s a great spot for older children to escape to chill away from the adults.

Scarborough Beach Villa Bedroom View

The interiors, framed with beamed and reed ceilings and oak floors, are filled with a mix of cane, rattan and wood furniture, tactile textiles and art. It feels earthy, relaxed, cosy and inviting, with just the right touch of luxury to make a stay here feel exceptional. Through the windows are incredible views.
