A stone’s throw from Kalk Bay’s buzzy main strip, this contemporary seaside villa offers ocean views and excellent value for money.
The seaside suburb of Kalk Bay grabbed international headlines in July 2018 when it was named one of The 12 Coolest Neighbourhoods Around The World by Forbes magazine. After taking a stroll along its vibey main road, and down to the harbour where fishing boats bob on the water, you’ll understand why.
Part-sleepy fishing village and part-artsy neighbourhood, Kalk Bay is a delicious mix of historic buildings, cobbled streets, bohemian bric-a-brac shops, vintage bookstores, art and antique galleries, quaint cafés and restaurants, colourful fishing vessels, offering a unique experience unlike anywhere else in Cape Town.
With all this on offer, it’s a wonderful spot to spend a weekend with family or friends, which we did recently during a stay at Sunshine Villa, a fantastically affordable villa on the mountainside in Kalk Bay. It’s conveniently located a few blocks up from the seafront, allowing us to make like locals and immerse ourselves in the beauty and charm of the surrounds.
We’d amble down to Kalk Bay’s main drag for a coffee each morning before hitting Dalebrook Tidal Pool to explore rock pools and watch plucky swimmers doing their early-morning laps. And then head back to our home-from-home for a braai and to watch the harbour activity from the sunny deck.
Sleeping four people in two bedrooms, Sunshine Villa is fully equipped with everything you need for an uninterrupted stay by the sea. Stellar location aside, its cost – from R500 per person per night – is perhaps its biggest drawcard.
