Trailblazing bartender AJ Durow recently took over as bar manager at Bascule Bar, injecting her fearless creativity into a menu of superb signature cocktails and classic pours. Over her meteoric bartending career she’s poured her passion for the craft into bars such as Sin Tax and Zioux, before veering into consulting on product development for a number of prestigious beverage brands. Now she’s fine-tuning the Bascule Bar offering and is ready to share her secrets in an exclusive hands-on cocktail masterclass.

As you relax over a welcome drink AJ will guide you through key bartending techniques. Then you’ll learn the mixology secrets behind the making, as she creates two of the signature Bascule cocktails step-by-step with you. Then it’s time to dine.

Bar menu

For the Bascule food menu, chef Asher Abramowitz (of Heirloom, the signature restaurant at Cape Grace) has devised a casually sophisticated menu of small plates to align with the luxurious ambience. Think sticky pork belly with kimchi, duck liver paté, risotto of the day, linefish kokada (with lemongrass and coconut cream) or half a dozen oysters. Then there are the comfort-food bar staples that regulars continue to demand, such as the wagyu burger, crispy chicken burger, fish and chips, or ribeye steak and duck-fat chips.

Finish with creative twists on nostalgic sweet treats such as baked cheesecake, a banana split, crème brûlée or rice pudding.
