Just in time for spring, a breathtaking indigenous fynbos-lined avenue leads the way to Cavalli Estate, a feted wine and stud farm in the Helderberg’s magnificent Cape Floral Kingdom near Somerset West. Known among food fundis and scenery-seekers as the place to go for top-drawer wining and dining, it’s no surprise that Cavalli is considered one of the best restaurants in the area.
Headed by chef Lucas Carstens (previously Makaron Restaurant at Majeka House), the restaurant’s light and airy setting boasts spectacular views from its waterside terrace that, coupled with fresh, seasonal plates, make for a wonderful dining experience.

Your meal begins with a plate of farm-fresh canapés to whet the palate followed by six delectable courses, which include aged yellowtail pastrami; steamed mussels; eggplant heart and Karoo lamb, with caramel pear, poached guava and petit fours for dessert! There’s also a dedicated vegetarian menu for non-meat-eaters.
