Against the backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, inside a gracious old Cape-style building, Faber at Avondale Estate has a uniquely striking outlook: over vineyards and a sweeping valley, punctuated by Paarl Rock, the silhouette of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg.

The seasonal menu, where possible, is made using ingredients from the farm’s fields and garden – including edible flowers, herbs, vegetables and free-range eggs – resulting in a true farm-to-fork experience.
Below is a sample menu (dependent on the produce available on the day):
Starters include pan-roasted Buffelshoek springbok loin; steamed Saldanha Bay mussels;
creamed and charred baby leeks; beef “tartare”; and cold smoked Cape Point Yellowfin tuna.
Mains include rolled Karoo lamb saddle; butter-roasted False Bay kabeljou; honey-roasted butternut; confit Kroondal duck leg; and dry-aged grass-fed beef sirloin.
Dessert includes aromatic poached guava with vanilla panna cotta; textures of chocolate; spiced crème caramel; and a selection of local cheeses and preserves.
The modern, open kitchen allows a privileged view of the culinary magic as it happens and, during winter, the cosy interior (adorned with indoor plants and wooden accents) is the perfect space to enjoy the experience by the crackling fire.
On warm days, the verandah is the place to be, where sweeping vineyard and valley views set the scene.
