A three-course wine-paired lunch for four in the Paarl Winelands.
Against the backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, inside a gracious old Cape-style building, Faber at Avondale Estate has a uniquely striking outlook: over vineyards and a sweeping valley, punctuated by Paarl Rock, the silhouette of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg mountains.

In the kitchen, chef Dale Stevens (formerly Jordan Restaurant and The Test Kitchen) concocts a selection of delectable dishes that not only taste and look good, but take guests on a memorable culinary journey.
The seasonal menu, where possible, is made using ingredients from the farm’s fields and garden – including edible flowers, herbs, vegetables and free-range eggs – resulting in a true farm-to-fork experience. Below is a sample menu (dependent on the produce available on the day):
Starters citrus-cured line caught swordfish; butter roasted stuffed calamari; beef “tartare”; and rare roasted blesbok loin.
Mains roasted Karoo lamb rack; Buffeljagsbaai line caught kabeljou, steamed mussel velouté; Fricassee of roasted shimeji; sous vide free range pork fillet; and dry-aged grass-fed beef sirloin.
Dessert aromatic poached guava with vanilla panna cotta; Basque cheesecake with macerated gooseberries and naartjie; and a selection of local cheeses and preserves.
During winter, the cosy interior is the perfect space to enjoy lunch by the crackling fire; on warm days, the verandah is the place to be, where sweeping vineyard and valley views set the scene.
