On the slopes of the majestic Simonsberg Mountains lies Quoin Rock Wine Estate, a serene sanctuary surrounded by magical gardens. It’s here, amidst the award-winning architecture of the estate, that you’ll find Gåte Restaurant, recently named 2019 Global Restaurant of the Year at The World Luxury Restaurant Awards.
The restaurant has been designed to take full advantage of the magnificent mountain views that, together with the stellar gastronomic offering, makes for an immersive Winelands experience. Head chef Nicole Loubser (formerly La Colombe, The Test Kitchen and Michelin-starred JAN in Nice, France) and her talented team have crafted an artful 14-course menu that can either be enjoyed as a five-course lunch or a seven-course dinner.
Inspired by the flavours of 14 countries that are skilfully combined with classic South African cuisine, the menu boasts dishes presented as Italy, France, Spain, Canada, Austria, Ukraine, Vietnam, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Greece, UK and Namibia.
Expect to be transported by dishes such as octopus with rice paper and teriyaki; fried chicken with popcorn and a sweetcorn espuma; upstream salmon with maple syrup and bacon dashi; pork with mushrooms and raspberry caviar; and Gruyère cheese with melon sorbet and melba toast, and lavender panna cotta and chamomile – to name a few.

The winner’s name will be drawn on 17 September 2019, and the prize is redeemable from 25 September 2019 until 30 November 2019 (subject to availability). The total prize is valued at R5 000, and includes a 14-course gourmet menu (R1 450 ex VAT per person), and a wine-pairing experience (at R700 ex VAT per person) for two at Gåte at Quoin Rock Wine Estate. The prize value excludes bottled water, coffee, tea and any other extras, as well as the compulsory 12.5% service fee.
This competition and its prizes are being offered by Quoin Rock Wine Estate, which is solely responsible for ensuring that the winner receives his/her prize.
