One of the oldest farms in the Stellenbosch region (dating back to 1694), Knorhoek has a serene allure in winter. Tucked into the top of the Knorhoek Valley, its vines fringing the rocky upper slopes of the Simonsberg mountain, it’s a place where the Cape lion once roamed, where nature and wine-making coexist in harmony, and where modern comforts respect the heritage of the old Cape Dutch buildings. Cosy fires, tastings of award-winning wines, adventurous hikes on the farm trails, pizzas and burgers in the tasting room, and delicious country cuisine make for a charming escape whatever the season.
Heritage and modern comforts
The neighbour and sister wine farm to Quoin Rock (which you drive past on the way), Knorhoek has gained a patina of modern comforts since the Gaiduk family bought it in 2019. They have sensitively preserved the architectural and cultural heritage built up over three centuries, so that you feel like you’re entering a bygone era as you drive along a rose-lined road into the sheltered enclave of old oak trees.
A winter overnight escape
In winter, slanting sunlight lights up golden oak leaves and it’s time for long walks coming home to red wine by the fireside, luxurious blankets, board games and a good book. Knorhoek offers a choice of accommodation for a cosy and serene winter break: an elegant guesthouse, the self-catering Farmhouse (sleeping 10 guests) and charming Lavender Cottage, a relaxed and family-friendly two-bedroom self-catering cottage with a fully equipped kitchen, private patio and garden.

The winner’s name will be drawn on Tuesday, 10 June 2025, and the prize is redeemable until 30 September 2025 (subject to availability). The total prize is valued at R9 120, and includes one night’s accommodation for four people in Lavender Cottage, lunch and a wine-tasting, dinner and breakfast.
This competition and its prizes are being offered by Knorhoek, which is solely responsible for ensuring that the winner receives his/her prize. The Inside Guide shall not be liable to entrants of this competition for any prizes, loss or damage whatsoever and howsoever arising from the running, or otherwise, of this competition. The winners will be notified by email and should reply within 24 hours. If you do not respond within 24 hours, you will forfeit your prize and another winner will be drawn.
