Like a scene straight out of A Year in Provence, The Table Restaurant on the beautiful De Meye wine farm in Stellenbosch, is a Winelands fantasy come true… long, sybaritic lunches in the country, surrounded by family and friends, and the joy of delicious home-grown food and good stuff to drink.
Newish owners, Leigh Williamson and chef Brendan Thorncroft (formerly of Restaurant Seven, Restaurant Jardine and Jordan Restaurant), were former patrons of the restaurant, so they understood better than anyone what made it so special and have retained the authenticity, charm, and delicious cooking that its predecessor was so loved for.
A scattering of long, rustic tables, shaded by trees and surrounded by a charming garden, evoke convivial get-togethers in the French or Italian countryside – the spot where the lucky winner and their plus-ones will be treated to a heavenly lunch.
Expect a beautifully prepared and utterly delicious three-course sharing menu made from only the best, locally sourced ingredients. Although the options change weekly, depending on what’s in season, guests can expect freshly baked sourdough bread from Schoon de Companje with homemade farm butter, 12-hour braised lamb shoulder with sides for mains, and decadent desserts such as millionaire chocolate tart with orange-blossom ice cream. Wine, bottled water, and coffee are all included in the meal.
In summer, ask for a private table under the trees; in winter take a seat in the historic white-washed farm building for a cosy meal overlooking the vineyards beyond. Either way, a lunch at The Table at De Meye is the closest you’ll get to living la dolce vita, this side of Emilia-Romagna.

The winner’s name will be drawn on 17 March, and the prize is redeemable from 18 March 2020 until 30 September 2020 (subject to availability). The total prize is valued at R3 000, and includes a lunch for four, complete with wine, bottled water, and coffee.
