Winner announced! Congrats to Simone Ho who won this fabulous prize.
Tjing Tjing House on Longmarket Street is a multi-level, one-stop slice of quirky-cool Japan – from the ground-level streetfood eatery Torii to the pumping rooftop cocktail bar. On the middle floor is Momiji, a serene and sophisticated space where a Saturday-night-only feast unfolds…
Omakase – meaning “I leave it up to you” – is the Japanese sushi-led set menu created by chefs to surprise and delight diners, unfolding over several courses of visual and flavour perfection. At Momiji, chefs Adri Morel and Nicola Aucamp’s modern interpretation of omakase focuses on locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. They prioritise organic produce, which they grow themselves in collaboration with Urban Harvest to ensure it’s at its peak of flavour and freshness.
Ten exquisite small courses progress from a sashimi plate, through nigiri of fish, meat, mushroom and veg, to onigiri chazuke – a fish-bone dashi broth with rice that utilises all of the often discarded parts of the fish, paying respect to the mottainai concept of not wasting anything worthy. Dessert of mochi, a wasabi ice-cream sandwich and an exclusive ‘Kit Kat’ unique to Momiji, bring this exquisite meal to a close.
The drinks are part of the dinner experience – Tjing Tjing master mixologist Phil Burrows is on hand to curate innovative, custom cocktails based on diners’ favourite flavours. There is also wine and sake.
Afterwards, diners can extend the special evening by visiting Momiji Lounge, an intimate Tokyo-style lounge area – think Lost in Translation… dimly lit, hushed and intimate, with sunken booths and a low-slung sofa – or the Rooftop Bar, stocked with speciality spirits (including Japanese whisky, premium sake and wines).
