Specialists in contemporary and modern art Aspire is hosting their first 2022 sale of highly collectable artworks at their auction house in De Waterkant near Cape Town’s City centre.

The 111 works are on view from Friday, 11 March to Wednesday, 16 March from 10am to 5pm.

What’s for sale?

The collection of 111 works by 74 artists consists of highly collectable modern and contemporary-historical treasures. Rare and important pieces by artists such as William Kentridge, Marlene Dumas and Robert Hodgins offer collectors a unique opportunity to add significant pieces to their collections.

Aspire’s deep commitment to promoting art from the African continent is evident in displays by renowned artists from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and the DRC such as Joseph (Cheri Cherin) Kinkonda, Misheck Masamvu and Moffat Takadiwa, among others.

The bidding process

You can bid for your favourite pieces in four ways:

  1. Live bidding at Aspire’s De Waterkant gallery
    You can bid in person during the live auction by registering and bidding in the saleroom. New bidders to Aspire need to supply a valid ID or driver’s license and proof of address.
    Opening times Monday – Friday,  8.30am – 4.30pm
  2. Telephone bidding
    An Aspire representative will “walk” you through the live auction on the phone. You may instruct the representative to bid on a lot on your behalf.
    Please submit your telephone bidding form at least 24 hours before the commencement of the auction by email to bids@aspireart.net.
  3. Written bid (Absentee bid)
    The auctioneer will, in your absence, bid on your behalf, up to the maximum amount given by you. Should the bidding not reach your maximum bid, you will acquire the lot for one increment above the previous bid.
    You can submit your absentee bids online via Aspire’s website.
  4. Online bidding
    If you have transacted with Aspire before, you may sign in to the website and register for the auction. If you are a new client, you will need to create a new account on the Aspire website and then register for the auction.
    On sale day, registered users can bid online in real-time through the complementary bidding platform Aspire Live.

Good to know On Saturday, 12 March at 11am, aspirant art buyers are invited for coffee and mimosas and to view the collection of historic, modern and contemporary artworks on offer.
