A Scottish Braai in the Winelands with Chef George Jardine

A Scottish Braai in the Winelands with Chef George Jardine

Join this renowned chef for a gourmet lunch on the Botellary Wine Route near Stellenbosch.

There’s no shortage of culinary delights in the Stellenbosch region, and the Bottelary Hills Wine Route in particular is home to some wonderful wine estates – Kaapzicht, Mooiplaas, Hazendal, Bellevue and Hartenberg, to name a few. Most of the farms have been family-owned for generations, and that familial feel permeates the area, welcoming visitors from near and far.

So, when we heard that the local farms had teamed up with one of South Africa’s top chefs and acclaimed restauranteur – George Jardine – we went digging for more.

Pop-up lunch and wine fun

On 27 August and 19 November 2017, join George as he rustles up a series of delicious three-course Sunday lunches at one of the farms on the Bottelary Hills Wine Route. Unsurprisingly, both of these feasts will be perfectly paired with a selection of wonderful wines from the region.

For the next instalment in the series, on 27 August 2017, Scotland-born George will take inspiration from his roots, as he serves up a Scottish braai, combining fine fare, the best and freshest locally sourced ingredients and, of course, some top-class wines, too! These delicious lunches are laidback affairs, so even though you’ll be receiving a three-course meal, the vibe will be relaxed and festive.

And, before tucking into your meal, enjoy the warm company of Bottelary Hills’ most talented winemakers. And make sure to purchase a bottle (or crate) of wine to take home with you.

Diarise these dates for the upcoming Botterlary lunches:

27 August: Kaapzicht Wine Estate, whose rich granite soils coupled with the cool ocean breeze creates full-bodied fruity wines
19 November: Mooiplaas, known for elegant wines and magnificent surrounds

A taste of heritage

“Bottelary Hills is home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country, and many of them have been nurtured over generations by the same families. As a result, they have an incomparable understanding of the terroir, which shows in the wines the region produces,” explains Elmarie Rabe, manager of the Stellenbosch Wine Routes. “Pairing these wines with the cooking of one of South Africa’s most acclaimed chefs is an opportunity no epicurean dare miss.”

Please note: Pre-booking is essential, as seating is limited.
