A beautifully prepared dinner hosted by a Burgundy buff.

The Vine Bistro’s picture-perfect terrace, with 360-degree vineyard views, epitomises leisurely lunches in the Stellenbosch Winelands – whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or popping in for a spontaneous meal.

In addition to fabulous French-inspired fare overseen by chef-patron Christophe Dehosse and head chef Alex Rykaar, the estate is also known for its wonderful selection of homegrown wines, the best of which will be ripe for tasting at the Burgundy Evening on Friday, 27 November. Hosted by world-renowned Burgundy expert Remington Norman, the event promises to be an epicurean extravaganza, with a five-course wine-paired dinner prepared by the estate’s culinary team.

The evening begins with an informal tasting of Glenelly’s flagship wines (Reserve chardonnay 2014 and 2019, Lady May 2010 and 2014) offered by Glenelly’s general manager Nicolas Bureau, and winemaker Luke O’Cunnine, which will be accompanied by canapés.

Next up is the pièce de résistance: a delectable five-course dinner prepared by chef Christophe and The Vine Bistro team, designed to pair perfectly with an impeccable range of Burgundys selected by top-class producers.

First course Cape line fish, aubergine and wakame salad with Glenelly Estate extra-virgin olive oil dressing
Wine pairing 2017 Bourgogne Blanc, Clos du Château, Ch. de Puligny Montrachet and de Montille

Second course Cêp mushroom agnolotti (creamy mushroom pasta), celery jardiniere and local black truffle sauce
Wine pairing 2017 Gevrey Chambertin and Domaine Duroché

Third course Roast free-range duck breast, jus tranché and root vegetables
Wine pairing 2017 Nuits St Georges, Premier Cru, Clos de la Maréchale, Frédy Mugnier and Ch. de Chambolle Musigny

Fourth course 16-month-matured Comté and a green salad with walnut and raisin melba toast
Wine pairing 2017 Meursault and Domaine Lafarge

Fifth course Berry, lemon and pistachio macaron, followed by a choice of coffee or tea and a selection of petit fours

Each wine pairing will be presented by Remington Norman, an acclaimed wine merchant and author from England who has written various books on Burgundy varietals.

An evening for gourmands, bon vivants, oenophiles and anyone who loves the finer things in life. Santé!
