Caroline’s Red Wine Review 2019 at The Table Bay Hotel
Taste some of the finest reds in the country (and meet their makers, too).
By Inside Guide • 01 July 2019
Caroline’s Annual Red Wine Review is a utopia for oenophiles! Launched in 1988, it’s still regarded as one of the most esteemed events on the calendar, over three decades later.
And this year, on 25 July 2019, 60 of the best South African wineries, at the top of their competitive game, will be gathered in the ballroom of the prestigious Table Bay Hotel, at the V&A Waterfront.
Only the premier wines will be in attendance, as each wine estate will offer their flagship red wine, personally presented by their respective winemakers.
Participating wineries include: Boekenhoutskloof, Chamonix, De Grendel, Delaire Graff, Ernie Els, Groot Constantia, Kanonkop, Kleine Zalze, La Motte, Lanzerac, Luddite, Shannon, Thelema, Tokara, Vilafonté, Warwick, and many more. That’s a whole lot of wine, so pace yourselves throughout the evening.
Your R350 ticket gives you entrance to the event, a programme booklet, as well as access to the winemakers. And, should you like to order some of the wines on offer, most will be available at discounted rates from Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar.
The woman behind the wine

Caroline Rillema is the woman behind the event. Oenophiles might know her from her shops, Caroline’s Fine Wine Cellar in the city centre and a second branch in Tokai, where her vast experience, knowledge and superb palate are evident in the wonderfully curated selection of wines on her shelves.
Good to know This event is strictly limited to 400 guests, so book ahead to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 5pm, but those who arrive after 7.30pm will not be permitted entry.
