Don your best Iron Man costume and head to the Cape Town Stadium for three days of film, cosplay and appearances from international film and TV stars.

In 2020, we’re putting our Marvel-vs-DC differences aside and coming together for the biggest collection of film fanatics, gaming enthusiasts and comicbook fans in the city. This three-day festival of everything fantastical is coming to the Mother City at the Cape Town Stadium in Greenpoint from 1 to 3 May.

Celebrating the best of the film and TV industries, as well as comicbook artistry, Comic Con Cape Town features everything from gaming competitions to celebrity panel discussions and, most importantly, out-of-this-world cosplaying!

A stellar lineup

Comic Con Cape Town

Attending Comic Con Cape Town this year are two international TV series stars – Tom Hopper and Ricky Whittle. More recently known as Luther Hargreeves (aka Space Boy and Number 1) in the Netflix series, The Umbrella Academy, British actor Tom Hopper has also made a name for himself as Billy Bones in the award-winning drama series Black Sails and Dickon Tarly in the critically acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones.

Ricky Whittle, also British, starred as Shadow Moon in American Gods, an American fantasy drama television series, as well as the post-apocalyptic drama, The 100. Both stars will be at the convention for all three days, participating in panel discussions, Q&As and autograph-signing sessions with fans.

Other international guests include comic illustrator, painter and designer, Mark Brooks, who is known for his acclaimed interior work on Marvel Comics’ Star Wars Han Solo and as a cover artist for DC Comics’ iconic Batman series, Detective Comics. Stanley “Ártgerm” Lau, known for his work on Batgirl, Poison Ivy and Supergirl will also be there, as well as digital artist Derrick Chew from Singapore.

Good to know Comic Con is sharing a venue with KidsCon, a multiday interactive festival celebrating everything for kids. Both of these festivals are a showcase for children’s fashion, toys and lifestyle brands, with entertainment and activities for all.
