Get Festive with a Run and Cycle Through the Cape’s Funky Fynbos

The fourth annual Funky Fynbos Festival kicks off on 23 September at Lomond Wine Estate in Gansbaai, with the promise of good food, great wine, delicious beer, fabulous entertainment and warm country hospitality among a wonderful fynbos landscape. For those seeking more than that, there’ll be lots to keep you busy, with MTB races, trail runs and even Ironman challenges.

Put your best foot forward – and your fitness to the test – by entering one of these challenges (and maybe win a prize while you’re at it). All races start and end at the beautiful Lomond Wine Estate.

Mountain Bike Races: 23 September

• 50km race starts at 8am, R280
• 27km race starts at 8.30am, R180
• 17km race starts at 8.45am, R80
• 10km park ride starts at 9am, R30

Trail Run Races: 24 September

• 30km race starts at 7.30am, R280
• 12km race starts at 8.30am, R130
• 6km race starts at 9am, R50
• 1.2km park run

Ironman and Ironwoman Duo Challenge: 24 September:

• Long Duo Challenge: 50km MTB and 30km trail run, R450
• Medium Duo Challenge: 27km MTB and 12km trail run, R250
• Short Duo Challenge: 17km MTB and 6km trail run, R100

Wine and sunshine 

While the thrill seekers are keeping active, the kiddies and the rest of the family can enjoy live music and something to eat and drink from the stalls dotted around Lomond Lake in the middle of the wine farm.

Should you feel like more of a skop, head into town for some more festivities.
