Gabriëlskloof Favourite Things Market 2016

The festive season is upon us again! Shew, this year has sped by. Why not do make a leisurely day of Christmas shopping, instead of sweating it out in an overcrowded mall? The Gabriëlskloof Favourite Things market is an annual event that happens in the estate’s beautiful courtyard, with its reflective ponds and lush lawns. Here, you’ll find talented locals making, baking, curating, crafting, sewing and sharing their wares.

Peruse the many stalls for a delicious bite to eat: fresh oysters, cheese, baked treats, burgers, and loads more. And then get to the business of gift shopping for unique handmade products – from fine jewellery and clothing to ceramics, handmade toys and knits, including alpaca wool! And, of course, sipping on a glass or two of Gabriëlskloof’s wine is compulsory while you browse.

After a day of shopping, flop into a chair and enjoy a meal to the sweets sounds of live music: the Gypsy Jazz trio on Friday night, and the delightful strains of a French accordion on the following evenings.

Market organiser, Nicolene Finlayson, says it best: “When last did you stroke a furry alpaca or shop with a glass of wine in your hand? Our market is a colourful celebration of all our favourite things. It’s for young and old to feast on the best the Overberg can offer in terms of design and food.”

And, before you leave, stock up on some take-home goodies from the deli, including local farm honey, homemade butter, raw, organic chocolates, goat’s milk, and loads more.
