Hazendal Jazz Picnic: Live Music + Tasty Bites Overlooking the Vines

With summer in the air, there’s hardly a better time – or place – to celebrate good food, good wine and good music than on the lush lawns of Hazendal Estate. This December, the estate is hosting a Jazz Picnic where guests will be treated to a seasonally inspired spread and a glass of wine to the smooth sounds of local jazz trio, Paolo Costa and crew.

In the basket

Tickets cost R550 per person and include a Babushka picnic basket, chairs, an umbrella and blanket, a bottle of Christoffel Hazenwinkel white blend (per couple), and a live musical performance. A self-service beer and wine bar is also available on the night.

In your hamper, expect a delightful array of South African and Russian delicacies, such as artisanal breads, potted snoek pâté, dukkah roast chicken and local cheeses and preserves – and there’s a vegetarian hamper, too!

Kids are welcome; their picnic hamper (R140) includes a cookie decorating kit.

And all that jazz

Paolo Costa takes to the estate’s over-water pavilion stage with his band aptly called All That Brazilianess. Their original compositions fuse samba, bossa nova and jazz and the performance includes songs from his new Oceanico project – a wonderful collaboration between Brazilian and South African musicians.
