The Italian-themed event of the year returns to Idiom Wines. For one weekend only, this picturesque farm in the heart of Somerset West wine country is transformed into a slice of Italy, where festival-goers can experience la dolce vita, while enjoying sweeping views of the Helderberg mountains and False Bay beyond.
Who doesn’t love Italian food? At this event, there’s no shortage of deliciousness. Watch some of the best local chefs prepare their favourite Italian dishes at the Cooking Theatre, then satisfy your pangs at one of the many food stalls, serving pizza, pasta, gelato and pastries, as well as a number of freshly prepared tasting dishes from some local Italian restaurants.
Espresso fiends should swing by the coffee stand, and if you’re a fan of cheese and charcuterie, head to the deli section and stock up on a delicious selection of prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and more.
In vino veritas
What would a weekend in Italy be without vino? A little dull, we’d say. Which is why wine will be flowing… Guests are free to visit the various tasting areas, sipping and sampling a selection of imported Italian wines, as well as a number of Idiom’s homegrown varietals. There’ll also be a series of Italian wine masterclasses for aficionados, as well as a dedicated Prosecco and Aperol Spritz area for lovers of bubbly.
Fun for all
With a wide variety of entertainment for all age groups, this festival is an ideal outing for the entire family. While you’re enjoying the wine, food and live music, the kids can enjoy a series of activities – including learning to make pizza and pasta – in the dedicated kiddies’ area.
So, round up the famiglia for a weekend trip to Italy – er, Somerset West.
