Lanzerac Heritage Day: A Celebratory Long Table Feast

There’s no shortage of heritage to celebrate at Lanzerac, where the cellars and historic Cape Dutch Manor House resonate with a centuries-long tradition of hospitality. Established in 1692, the iconic Stellenbosch wine estate turns 330 this year and, to mark the occasion, is throwing a memorable long-table feast and raising a glass to the future.

Against the glorious backdrop of mountains and vines, the Stellenbosch Philharmonic Orchestra has composed an original song to mark the occasion, and will be performing it (and other songs) live on the night. There’s an art exhibition by the Marie Stander Art School to feast your eyes on. With the sense of history emanating from every oak tree and thatched Cape Dutch building, the Heritage Day mood is set.

Lanzerac’s long-table feast

Cellar-master Wynand Lategan brings out the finest estate wines to pair with a lavish feast conceived by executive chef Stephen Fraser and served at the Cellar’s long table. The sumptuous selection of mains comes piled high on platters to be shared at the table, further enhancing the generosity for which Lanzerac is known.

Bread course Warm mosbolletjie buns, lavash and Parmesan bread sticks, with peach lemon jam and biltong butter
Starter Gin-and-beetroot-cured salmon, creamed prawn, apple jelly, potato and dill terrine
Mains Beef-fillet Wellington, caramelised shallots, charcoal aioli
a duo of pork belly cubes, eisbein croquette, with rocket and cured mustard
coq au vin with king oyster mushrooms and smoked prosciutto
Sides Rosemary new potatoes cooked in duck fat
warm salad of courgette, asparagus, spinach and pea in green Thai pesto
baked pumpkin wedges, spiced puree, seed granola
roast carrot salad with fynbos and honey vinaigrette
chicken Caesar salad with prosciutto and grana Padano
