Mount Nelson Hotel: Confections x Collections Week

A time-honoured tradition, salon fashion shows have a style and sophistication and exclusive thrill of their own. And could there be a more perfect setting for such an event than Cape Town’s legendary “Pink Lady”?

Over five days, from 8 to 12 November, the Confections x Collections event will celebrate creativity in the most scintillating way, with an all-star cast of local designers, delectable designer confectionery and glamorous surroundings. There will be two salon-style fashion shows a day per designer in the hotel’s Lounge.

The designers

The event has been curated by Twyg Magazine, which is focused on showcasing sustainable, artisanal, ethical “slow fashion”. The theme of the collections is “African Luxury Lore”, a concept inspired by storytelling that explores the richness of African cultures and customs while redefining luxury codes. The trailblazing designers are:

• Wanda Lephoto: luxury African menswear with global fusion nuances (8 November)
• Lezanne Viviers: made-to-measure, recycled-fabric concept clothing (9 November)
• Sindiso Khumalo: winner of the prestigious 2020 LVMH Prize (10 November)
• Palesa Mokubung of Mantsho: bold, Afro-print-centric designs (11 November)
• Chu Suwannapha of Chulaap: unisex garments by the “Prince of Prints” (12 November)

The chef

The magicians behind Mount Nelson’s famously fabulous Afternoon Tea, executive chef George Jardine and pastry chef Vicky Gurovich, have collaborated with each designer to create bespoke confectionery for the limited-edition menu, which will be enjoyed at each fashion show. Expect a dazzling mix of artistry and flavour every bit as bold and inventive as the clothing on display.

This unmissable gathering is a fitting prelude to Mount Nelson’s 125th birthday celebrations, which will continue throughout 2024 with a wonderful lineup of events and specials.
