A weekend of fun, cultural activities for the whole family.
Keeping your little ones entertained during the summer holidays can be a challenge – to put it mildly. Not least because finding activities that balance fun, education and entertainment are few and far between.
But, fret not parents and caregivers, Norval Foundation in Steenberg is hosting a series of culturally inspired weekends for the whole family, kicking off on Saturday, 21 November.
Held in the scenic Sculpture Garden, the weekend consists of yoga, art, creative treasure hunts, theatre and more, in and among a striking array of indeginous plants and an impressive collection of artworks.
Saturday morning begins with a yoga session among the sculptures, hosted by established yogi Akosua Koranteng.
Once energised and rejuvenated, guests will be taken on an informative tour of the garden with renowned horticulturist and landscaper Keith Kirsten, while the little ones learn about art with a self-guided family treasure hunt.
Lovers of contemporary southern Arican art will be in their element with a private showing of the iiNyanga Zonkaya exhibition led by artist Athi-Patra Ruga himself.
Sunday is all about theatre, with local company Jungle Theatre performing Bongi Bird and Vinnie, The Western Leopard Toad – an interactive and improvised show about how to live a healthy, happy life.
All of the regular exhibitions will be on display for art aficionados to enjoy, and should you feel like a bite, Skotnes Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Or you might like to enjoy an alfresco summer picnic on the lawn.
Says Elana Brundyn (CEO of Norval Foundation): “We are delighted to invite families and people of all ages to spend a safe, early summer weekend in our Sculpture Garden. It is important for us to give our community the opportunity to experience the fun and diversity that Norval Foundation has to offer.”
