An afternoon of festive cheer and mid-winter spoils.
Whoever said Christmas comes but once a year didn’t get the Christmas in July memo from the Southern Hemisphere. Mid-winter is exactly when you want to cosy up with all those festive flavours, and luckily One&Only Cape Town has it all wrapped up…a celebratory and spectacular afternoon tea in their glorious Vista Lounge, liberally seasoned with mince pies, warm spices, chocolate Yule logs and Christmas in July festivity.
Afternoon tea and beyond
Amplified above and beyond even the extravaganza that is the regular Vista Lounge afternoon tea offering, this is an occasion to come hungry for (skip lunch and go easy on breakfast). You’ll want to make the most of the slow roast pork belly and smoked honey grapefruit glazed gammon at the live carving station (pigs in blankets too). Then there’s a waffle and crêpe station with cherry ice cream, and a hot butternut pudding with creme anglaise… but don’t get too carried away with those, as the centrepiece of the afternoon tea is a delightful array of savouries and sweet treats on the elegant One&Only stands, that you’ll want to linger over all afternoon.
Flavours of smoked turkey, confit duck, orange and cinnamon cured Norwegian salmon bring Christmassey aromas into a series of delicious sandwiches, choux pastries, vetkoek and brioche toasts. And red cherry scones, fruit mince pies, macarons with caramel cream, white chocolate and raspberry blondies are just a few of the delightful sweet bites on offer.
That’s before you explore the enticing jars of sweets (so tempting to dip into) brimming with an array of cake pops, nougat, Turkish delight and chocolate truffles. Not to mention the cakes available by the slice… a dark chocolate and mint yule log, and a baked cheesecake with black cherry compote.
Cheers to the season
Drink a toast with a welcome cocktail, then decide on one of the superb selection of loose leaf teas or variety of coffees to take you through the afternoon’s feast in leisurely sipping style.
