One&Only Cape Town: A Fire-Kissed Valentine’s Celebration at ROOI

Splendidly secluded, just minutes from the buzz of the V&A Waterfront, One&Only Cape Town doles out romance with its elegant atmosphere and and mesmerising views over the waterways and Table Mountain. The sumptuously decorated ROOI restaurant takes things up a notch; a bespoke cap classique cart of lesser-known bubbles, a magnificent mixology menu of signature cocktails and, for Valentine’s Day, a plethora of extra nods to romance on the menu of a fire-kissed candlelight dinner for two.

Celebrating land, sea and South African cuisine’s love affair with fire, ROOI’s stunningly designed dining space reflects warmth and romance, with low light, a sophisticated sizzle of rich colours and a fire-themed grillroom menu.

For Valentine’s Day a special five-course menu woos your palate. An amuse-bouche of flame-grilled tuna with celeriac-and-horseradish remoulade, fire-roasted red cabbage and an apple-mustard dressing sets things off to a sizzling start.

Naturally, oysters are among the choice of starters, with touches of raspberry, spekboom, chokka tentacles and coconut-chilli dressing. Or tuck into the bone-marrow tartare with hand-chopped fillet and crispy onions; or a Belnori goats’ cheese salad with pumpkin-seed granola, confit raisins and roasted onion petals.

Next, choose between mains of Josper-grilled beef fillet; charred cumin kingklip with fennel and radish salad and a Malay curry vinaigrette; or a smoked tomato risotto with blue mascarpone, fried basil, roast pecan nuts and sambals.

Sharing is caring when it comes to the dessert, aptly named Sweetheart, a delicious concoction made for two with caramelised vanilla-milk ice cream, raspberries and chocolate crumble. Then there’s a final sweet surprise of a chef’s kiss in the friandise.

To set the seal on this superb evening, go for the carefully chosen wine pairings (optional but hard to beat): Silverthorn’s The Genie (an elegant and velvet-textured 100% shiraz cap classique) with starters; cool climate Kara-Tara Pinot Noir with mains; Thelema’s Vin de Hel muscat late harvest with dessert; and Bobbejaan Liqueur (a digestif made of indigenous South African botanicals) with the friandises.

Settle in for an intimate Valentine’s Day celebration, with live music from a jazz-soul three-piece band setting the mood to lovestruck.
