When it comes to Cape Town markets, the old adage applies: the more, the merrier…

There’s a new market in town… Oude Molen Eco Village Market. It kicks off for the first time on 26 November at the Oude Molen Eco Village, and will run on Saturdays and Sundays thereafter.

The family-fun market is a thoughtful collaboration between ServiceGurus (a hospitality and retail consultancy launched in 2015) and the Yes We Can Sport & Jazz Foundation (a nonprofit foundation that makes positive contributions t in the lives of previously disadvantaged youth by empowering them through sports and other cultural activities).

Oude but good

The venue for these twice-weekly markets is the hall and surrounding area at the Oude Molen Eco Village, which was started in 1997 by some pioneering entrepreneurs, who turned the abandoned, derelict hospital complex into the bustling, mini village we know today. In addition to hosting the markets, the village offers various recreational facilities during the week, such as horse-riding and accommodation, and even has a charming farmstall café, too.

Market news

The market aims to be a regular family- and community-orientated event, where  local vendors, crafters and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to show off their wares in a safe and easily accessible location.

In addition to live entertainment for children and adults, there will be food stalls and trucks, a range of craft stalls, as well as a bar serving local and craft beers, ciders, wines and soft drinks.

And don’t forget to bring the little ones! There’s loads to keep them busy – from a designated play area to horse and pony rides and a jumping castle to boot. The market also offers party-planning, so you can host your children’s party with no fuss.

There is ample parking and a lovely outside space for everyone to relax and soak up a little country market atmosphere in the leafy suburb of Pinelands.

Calling all vendors, crafters and traders

The market has already confirmed a number of food stalls and trucks, but it’s still on the hunt for more vendors and traders, with the goal of securing 40 traders in total. So, if you’re interested in setting up a stall – or have someone to recommend – email vendors@oudemolenmarket.co.za.

And then, head down to the Oude Molen Eco Village Market, starting mid-November, and see what lies in store. Have fun!
