Don your best Alice in Wonderland costume and head to Meerendal Estate for a family-friendly day of delicious food and wonderfully wonky activities.
Are you ready to tumble down a rabbit hole, friends and family in tow? If you are, gather your clan in their best Alice in Wonderland-themed costumes, and head to Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville on 28 March for Picnics in the Park’s annual Mad Hatter’s Picnic! This unique outdoor spectacular promises to be a whirlwind of wonky games, activities and surprises – all in the name of Wonderland!
Expect a hat parade, human chess, a best-dressed competition, Beacon chocolate hunt, and many more surprise activities – as well as outdoor screenings of Alice in Wonderland (1951), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Into the Looking Glass (2016). This event will also be partnering with a local charity that supports abused women and children.
A record-breaking event
In 2017, The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party made its mark on the global stage by setting the Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters in one place at the same time! This year, Picnics in the Park has decided to brew up some friendly rivalry between Cape Town and Joburg (whose own Mad Hatter’s’ Tea Party falls on the 4 April) in an attempt to better last year’s Guinness record.
Only one city can win the title – so don your maddest hats, dandiest costumes and craziest makeup and bring your whole family along to this unique day!
