Rhebokskloof: A Family Picnic Day in the Paarl Winelands

Hidden away in a valley folded into the northern slopes of Paarl Mountain, Rhebokskloof exudes an away-from-it-all allure, especially when it comes to summer picnics with the family. Blankets are set out in the shade of spreading oak trees on a wide lawn that slopes gently down to the farm dam. There’s a jungle gym, and a backdrop of the heritage buildings where you’ll find the farm restaurant and wine-tasting room. The views are of vines and, higher up the slope, the rugged fynbos-clad slopes of the nature reserve.

Flatrock Family Picnic Day

Welcoming the warmer spring weather, Rhebookskloof is kicking off the summer picnic season with a celebratory picnic day. Expect a festive feel with jumping castles and waterslides to entertain the kids, live music, and a foretaste of the new gourmet picnic menu in beautifully packed baskets of generous farm fare.

On the picnic menu:

• pain d’epi with herb butter
• grilled chicken salad with corn, heirloom tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella
• salmon and cream cheese on sourdough
• cured meats, cheese, biltong pâté, olive tapenade
• homemade preserves
• Ouma’s classic cheesecake

Good to know There are vegetarian alternatives for both adult and kids’ picnic baskets.

Wine in your basket

Your picnic includes a bottle of Flatrock Chenin Blanc (which earned a double gold at Gilbert and Gaillard) and, just for the occasion, you’ll get an extra bottle of the new, soon-to-be released, Flatrock Pinotage. Don’t forget to wander to the tasting room for your free wine tasting too. Not to mention entry into a wine giveaway. A designated driver or Uber is highly recommended!
