Once again a classic Shakespearean play takes centre stage at the Maynardville Open-Air Theatre. This year sees a dark comedy lighting up the stage from and, in line with the global movement of women empowerment, it is to be presented by an all-female cast – something that’s never been done before on a South African stage!
The Taming of the Shrew – which tells the story of the headstrong Kate and her turbulent relationship with Petruchio, the man who tries to win her over – traditionally features a unisex cast, but writer and director Tara Notcutt is shaking things up with this supremely talented all-female cast.
Brought to you by Cape Town comedian Siv Ngesi and Pink Couch Productions, the play runs from 7 February to 1 March 2018. This refreshing take on the classic production is something you won’t want to miss, and where better to witness history-in-the-making than underneath the stars at the beautiful outdoor theatre at Maynardville.
