Spoil yourself in a countryside-in-the-city setting.
On the far edge of the Constantia wine valley, where manicured indigenous gardens, sprawling lawns and vineyards meet the fynbos-clad Silvermine mountains, Steenberg Farm offers a 300-hectare slice of idyllic countryside. There’s history aplenty (it was the very first Cape Town farm), but also a modern sensibility, with stylish yet relaxed offerings for visitors.
This Easter, there are two special (added) attractions.
Easter Sunday lunch
Tryn is the estate’s flagship restaurant, known for elevating favourite foods with modern flair, using sustainably sourced local ingredients and adding a worldly twist. Executive chef Kerry Kilpin and her team have crafted a superb Easter feast – with choices of starter, main and dessert, and plenty of beloved traditional flavours in the mix.
From a salmon-prawn-oyster combo or goat’s cheese tart with rich fruit flavours, to a ratatouille “mille-feuille”, grilled fish with Cape Malay velouté, or flame-grilled beef with a touch of bourbon and coffee, this is menu that will surprise and delight. The final course presents an impossible choice: something chocolatey, a fruity ensemble (yuzu, peach, passionfruit, raspberry) or the boerenkaas-based “He is Risen” with rooibos syrup.
You’ll be welcomed with a glass of Steenberg Chardonnay Brut Cap Classique, before sitting down to your three-course meal, plus an amuse-bouche, palate cleanser and chocolate truffle. There will also be Easter treats on the table and hot-cross buns, of course. There is a separate à la carte menu for children under 12 years, including calamari, noodles, steak and chips and ice cream.
If the late-summer weather holds, you can enjoy your meal with views – on the Vineyard Terrace or Oak Terrace.

The big egg hunt
What would Easter Sunday be without finding hidden chocolate treats? The hunt at Steenberg will be big in scope and size, and suitable for all ages. It starts at 1.30pm.
With Easter eggs stashed all over the estate, from the bucolic main gardens to the spa’s Scented and Secret Gardens, and from the tasting room to the two restaurants, this will be a great adventure. Even more so, as there’s a chance to find the grand prize: a literal “big egg” filled with goodies, including two bottles of Steenberg wine for the grown-ups (Chardonnay Cap Classique and Pinot Noir)
Stay and play
Make a long weekend of it and book a gorgeous room or suite at the five-star Steenberg Hotel. The “Five Lives Package” (for two) includes breakfast and the summer-special dinner, a Classic wine-tasting, 60-minute back, neck and shoulder massage, use of mountain bikes and a bottle of red wine.
