Steenberg New Year’s Eve: A Sumptuous Five-Course Dinner at Tryn

The turning of the year demands a sense of history, and at Steenberg’s signature restaurant Tryn that’s what you get in lavish quantities. The ideal setting for a memorable New Year’s Eve celebration, the Cape Dutch building looks over the historic werf dating back to 1682, shaded by old oaks on one side, and giving way to vineyards up the Constantia mountains on the other. While inside the warm and stylish space, a mixture of contemporary comfort and timeless decor sets the tone for relaxed luxury and generous feasting.

The menu

Chef Kerry Kilpin and team excel in flavour-packed dishes, which blend the classic French expertise of Kerry’s training with a love for Asian flavours and eastern spices. Plus of course a focus on local South African ingredients. For New Year’s Eve at Tryn expect a welcome cocktail followed by a steady flow of beautifully presented dishes, and a generous helping of heart-warming flavour. This is the menu to look forward to:

Amuse bouche Miso-dressed beetroot, taco with aubergine and dukkah
Starter Scallop carpaccio, smoked salmon and oyster on cauliflower brandade
Second course Kataifi prawn and confit pork belly on creamy celeriac, plum atchar, fennel vinaigrette
Main Flame-grilled beef fillet, asparagus, cep, bourbon café au lait, duck fat pommes Anna
Dessert Fig and Valrhona chocolate, dulce ganache, almond streusel, black fig ice cream
Friandise A selection with Origin coffee or Ronnefeldt tea

The optional wine pairings are chosen from the flowers of the Steenberg cellars, culminating in Steenberg Pinot Noir Cap Classique with dessert.
